A birdhouse of Tweety & Sylvester

Archie's Birdhouse Entry at the Gardens

Last week Archie and I had so much fun at the Mendocino Botanical Gardens. We went originally to take a picture of the bird house he had made for their summer fund-raiser. The Gardens give all who are interested a small bird house to decorate and they sell it. The birdhouses are displayed from Memorial Day weekend through to Labor Day as a silent auction so that people can bid on them. If you are willing to pay the full price that is on the house you do not have to wait until September, you can take it with you right then. Archie’s birdhouse is listed at $500.00. Who can resist Tweety Bird and Sylvester? As you can see by the other entries, there are a lot of talented artists in Fort Bragg.

Another creative bird house at the Gardens

Our friends are FOG members: Friends of the Garden; and they invited us to their fund-raiser, all we had to do was bring a vase of flowers. Intrigued, we decided to go after we took the pictures of the bird houses. I have never been to an auction before and had so much fun! Our friend was the auctioneer and at one point he shouted over to Archie: “Hey, Archie! Don’t you think this is worth $35.00?” Archie was talking with someone and looked up and said “Uh, sure!” We won three square blue glass containers full of succulents – Super Yay! I got brave eventually and bid on two more items and won!  One bouquet went for $100.00. The flower arrangement that Archie put together at the last moment went for $45.00. I love living in a small town: you never know when you are going to bump into some fun!

If you want to join me at the Botanical Gardens, plan on attending the Alumni Picnic in the Park from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM on Thursday, August 26th.

See you next week!
